💡 The Role: Crafting the User Journey
Design at Cactus is a collaborative sport. You will be integrated into the product lifecycle, contributing to:
- User Research: Assisting in user interviews and gathering insights from researchers to understand their pain points.
- Prototyping: Creating low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity interactive prototypes in Figma.
- Design Systems: Learning how to maintain and scale a design system that ensures consistency across multiple AI-driven products.
- Asynchronous Collaboration: As a remote-first company, you’ll master tools like MS Teams and Loom to share your design rationale across time zones.
📝 Selection Process: The “Pixel-Perfect” Filter
Cactus has a meritocratic hiring process that values your portfolio and your potential to learn more than your degree.
- Stage 1: Portfolio Screening:
- Mandatory: This is the most critical stage. They look for your ability to explain the “Why” behind your designs, not just the “How.”
- Stage 2: Recruiter Screening:
- A brief conversation to understand your career goals, design interests, and alignment with their remote-first culture.
- Stage 3: Technical Design Task (Optional but Common):
- You might be given a small “Whiteboard Challenge” or a 48-hour take-home task to redesign a specific component or flow.
- Stage 4: Hiring Manager Interview:
- A deep-dive with the Principal Product Designer. Expect questions like: “Walk me through a time you received critical feedback on a design and how you handled it.”
